Hi. It's huu again.
It's been a little while since I relaunched SHfOH. One of the biggest pet peeves I've had with the relaunch though, is not the fact that I can't design a website worth crap, even with a website builder tool like what I'm using right now, but it's primarily the domain.
Right now, the domain for the website is "shfoh.weebly.com". This poses a few problems and questions for people, such as "what the hell does shfoh mean", and most people are very turned off by the idea of seeing "Weebly" as a subdomain.
Likely because a lot of, let's say, bad actors tend to use website builders, much like Weebly, to do shady things online. Scam sites, phishing, etc. - you get the idea. For this reason, a challenge I've faced with my site is that a lot of websites block anything related to the Weebly subdomain. An example would be Steam - if I try to link my site anywhere on Steam, it'll immediately flag it as a dangerous website and even risk banning my account. Already had that happen once, actually, kinda (one of my community posts were taken down by Valve for having this site linked).
I say that, yet I tested just now by sending this website's URL to one of my alt. accounts & even linked it on my profile, neither were filtered out. Perhaps Valve lifted their spam filter on Weebly? I know it used to be a thing in the past but it doesn't seem like it is an issue right now. Can't say for certain for how long though, and I'd ideally love to just avoid it entirely.
Secondly, what does "SHfOH" mean? Well, I've explained it in an old news post but it basically means "Super Hexagon for Open Hexagon". It's an homage to what I made this website for originally. However, since my focus on this site has shifted wildly from that, I don't really think it's accurate to call it that anymore.
I'm considering changing the website's domain, ditch "SHfOH" for good, and perhaps just make it my own personal thing. I was thinking of grabbing a domain but then checked Weebly's pricing - $145/year doesn't...seem worth it to me? I don't know, really. If anyone can clarify things like this for me, get in touch with me. You'll find my contacts here.
Also, one more thing I wanna mention - I've received reports that CIS countries seemingly cannot access Weebly whatsoever, including this website. This includes countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, etc. I've tested this myself with Windscribe and I've been able to reproduce this as well. Unfortunately though, that is out of my control. I've tried looking around in the website's console to see if I can remove these restrictions but there doesn't seem to be an option for this. Looks like a blockage on Weebly's end as a whole and not something the end-user can resolve, which sucks.
That's about all I wanted to talk about for now. If anyone has ideas on how I can improve this website just...in general - layout-wise, design-wise, etc. - please do let me know. I'd really love to hear advice on design and everything. Even for me this website is a little bit of a nightmare to navigate but at the same time - I don't know how to really make it better...
